What is Little Big Shots?

Perfect for families and kids aged 2 to 18, Little Big Shots is Australia's major annual and traveling children's film festival. An inspiring, meaningful and fun-filled festival, Little Big Shots features the best in local and international children's shorts, animations, documentaries and, amazingly, child-produced films.

The films screening in Little Big Shots inspire discussion of world cultures, different languages, cultural diversity, emotional intelligence and human values. We guarantee they will make kids laugh, whoop, think and create. Each year in June, Little Big Shots returns to its Melbourne home town with a whole new crop of juicy screen adventures to amaze and delight.

In 2009, the festival's Melbourne season will run from June 9 to 14, at ACMI Cinemas (Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square) plus selected sessions at ArtPlay on Birrarung Marr. Following the festival's Melbourne season, Little Big Shots takes to the road, bringing great films from around the globe to cities and towns across Australia.

Our 2010 touring program will include screenings at Warrnambool's Fun4Kids Festival (June 27-July 4), the Sydney Opera House (Aug 5-8), the Adelaide Festival Centre (Oct 7-9) and the Kyneton Town Hall (Oct 27). For the full 2010 Little Big Shots program please visit our program page.

History

The idea to stage a major Melbourne international children’s film festival was originally conceived by Media Giants in 2004. Five years on, Little Big Shots has become its own not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the media literacy of young people, fostering children's creativity and showcasing the very best in filmmaking for, by and about kids.

The festival now stands as Australia’s only major stand-alone kids’ film festival - a niche Australian event. With its focus on short films for kids plus plenty of competitions and opportunities for involvement, Little Big Shots is one of the year’s most exciting experiences for kids.
